Chessplayers are fascinated by kingwalks, perhaps because of their inherent contradiction and even implausibility. The most important – and vulnerable – chess piece does something other than trying to remain safe.

Topics include: Kingwalks to Prepare an Attack; Kingwalks in Anticipation of an Endgame; Kingwalks to Defend Key Points; Kingwalks to Attack Key Points or Pieces; Mating Attacks; Escaping to Safety Across the Board; Escaping to Safety Up the Board; Kingwalks in the Opening; Kingwalks in the Endgame; Double Kingwalks; and Unsuccessful Kingwalks.

For sheer entertainment as well as instructive value, the kingwalk is transcendent!

Executing a successful kingwalk has the power to make a chessplayer happy and the same can be said about playing over the many beautiful examples in this book. Enjoy!

– From the Foreword by Hans Ree

Boroljub Zlatanovic: Fundamental Chess Strategy in 100 Games

The focus should be on understanding strategical concepts, principles and underlying logic. Fashionable opening lines will be forgotten (or re-evaluated) sooner or later, but understanding cannot be lost, and can be only upgraded. It is sad to see some players that are well equipped with opening lines, who are unable to realise a big positional advantage in an endgame. So, our advice is to concentrate on Strategy and Logic.

This book is highly recommended for club players, advanced players and masters, although even higher rated players may also find it useful. There is no doubt that lower rated players will learn a lot about thinking processes and decision making, while some logical principles can be put to use by more advanced players too.

The reader may ask: Why those games? The games presented in this book cannot be classified as the "best ever" (of course, such a classification is subjective). However, each game was chosen for its logic and instructive value. Of course, the author understands that readers´ opinion may differ. Either way, the games are useful for exploring many important points: How to evaluate a position and choose an appropriate plan? Where to attack? When to attack? When to exchange? How to realise an advantage?? Learning how to answer such important questions during your future games will improve your chess knowledge and technique considerably.
Always try and introduce logic into your games - you will be delighted with the results!

The author also chose some instructive games with the idea to illustrate some psychologically important moments in chess such as the counter-attack, zeitnot or realisation.

The games are separated into chapters, each focusing on a topic. This should facilitate the reader?s navigation through the book.

Charles Hertan: Forcing Chess Moves

Artikel-Nr.: SBHEFOCHMO

Auf Lager
innerhalb 2-3 Tagen lieferbar

27,95
Preis inkl. MwSt., zzgl. Versand

Forcing Chess Moves proposes a revolutionary method for finding winning moves. Charles Hertan has made an astonishing discovery: the failure to consider key moves is often due to human bias. Your brain tends to disregard many winning moves because they are counter-intuitive or look unnatural.

It’s a fact of life: computers outdo us humans when it comes to tactical vision and brute force calculation. So why not learn from them? Charles Hertan’s radically different approach is: use COMPUTER EYES and always look for the most forcing move first.

By studying forcing sequences according to Hertan’s method you will:

  • Develop analytical precision
  • Improve your tactical vision
  • Overcome human bias and staleness
  • Enjoy the calculation of difficult positions
  • Win more games by recognizing moves that matter.

This New and Extended Fourth Edition of Hertan’s award-winning modern classic includes 50 extra pages with new and instructive combinations. There is a foreword by three-time US chess champion Joel Benjamin, and a special foreword to this new edition by Swedish Grandmaster Pontus Carlsson.

Alexander Kotov : The Science of Strategy , kartoniert

Artikel-Nr.: SBKOTHSCOFSTkart

Auf Lager
innerhalb 2-3 Tagen lieferbar

24,99
Preis inkl. MwSt., zzgl. Versand

In The Science of Strategy , Alexander Kotov takes a methodical approach to this mysterious subject, breaking it down into clear themes. He starts with the crucial role of the pawn in chess, before systematically discussing a series of key strategic elements to complete the overall picture. Finally, building on what has gone before, one of the most difficult aspects of chess is discussed: the ability to evaluate a position and conceive a plan on the basis of this evaluation.

Kotov’s clear and methodical style makes this book an ideal guide to chess strategy. He describes the chess in words rather than relying overmuch on variations, and illustrates his ideas in insightfully annotated positional games, with the likes of Alekhine, Botvinnik and Karpov featuring heavily.

Alexander Kotov was a formidable grandmaster of the Soviet school. He was the 1948 Soviet Champion (jointly with Bronstein), and a member of the USSR gold-medal-winning team at the 1952 and 1954 Olympiads. He is also renowned as a chess author, most famously for Think Like a Grandmaster.
